Each set of doors opens to a full 90 degree angle, creating a very spacious entrance for this large sedan.
Lincoln made the Continental Coach Door in limited quantities in 2020. We reached out to them for more information. Anika Salceda–Wycoco Lincoln Communications Manager said, “We haven’t announced the exact quantity, but we will keep the edition special and unique.” If you are unable to get the Coach Door model in this year’s edition, there is still an opportunity to have one in your garage.
These rumors are true, as coach doors (also known as suicide doors) are returning to the Lincoln Continental, having become a prominent part of the model’s design since the 1960s. The company will only build 80 of these sedans for the 2019 model year. This will make them very rare. They will be available for purchase in the 2020 model year.
The Continental Coach Door Edition may look a lot like the standard model, but the extra six inches (15.24 cms) of wheelbase allows for the installation of larger doors. Lincoln claims that the additional length gives rear-seat legroom an advantage. The doors swing open full 90 degrees from the front to the back. This should make for a grand entrance at any event.
In the model’s announcement, David Woodhouse, Lincoln’s design director, stated that people appreciate elegance and glamour. They want to be able to get in and out of their vehicle as quickly as possible. This door answers both of these needs.”
As the owners approach, the passenger door handle and side mirror shine light onto the ground. The special plaque on the door identifies the vehicle’s number within the 80-car production run. A large console between the rear seats houses a tablet holder and a tray table that can be stowed.
The special Continental’s focus is on the passengers but the driver also enjoys some amenities. The Perfect Position Lincoln seats have 30 adjustment options, and a standard head-up display works even when you’re wearing polarized glasses.
Only the Coach Door models will be equipped with a 3.0-liter twin turbo V6 that produces 400 horsepower (298 Kilowatts) as well as 400 pound-feet (542 Newton meters) of torque.
The Continental Coach Door Edition will be available to dealers by summer 2019. However, the company has not yet revealed the price. Lincoln’s Black Label Services will be available to buyers. These services include an annual vehicle detailing, any time carwash, and a curated dining experience at select restaurants.
