Crossovers and SUVs are another point.
We thought we would make it through another month with no sedan making the ultimate sacrifice to market trends. But Lincoln confirmed that the MKZ was out of production on July 31. The Lincoln MKZ was a reliable choice for luxury midsize sedan buyers looking for a car that is both affordable and durable. It had been in production since 2006. Even though sedans make up a third of Lincoln’s business the decision to retire MKZ was made in January this year. This was something that we all expected.
Based on the Ford CD4 platform the Lincoln MKZ, and its platform-mate the Ford Fusion, both said goodbye the same day at Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant. The Ford Authority broke the news about MKZ’s death and confirmed it through Lincoln sources.
According to Anika Salceda–Wycoco, Lincoln spokesperson, Lincoln will invest in growth segments. The brand will feature a complete portfolio of SUVs as well as electric vehicles. “Lincoln will keep its latest SUVs fresh, and will expand its range with the launch Corsair Grand Touring later in the year. We also ended production of the Lincoln MKZ sedan in this transition.
Lincoln is left with one sedan, the Continental. However, even that was confirmed to last only until the end of the year. The Lincoln Continental nameplate will be retired for the fourth time in Lincoln’s history. The Ford Bronco Sport has more room at Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant and will pick up the pieces with full-scale production beginning in October 2020. Is this crossover/SUV trend going away? Can we expect the sedan making a comeback
