These photos clearly show that the compact crossover will be getting a Mercedes makeover.
We received a new batch of spy photos today. They capture the revamped Mercedes–Benz GLA–Class in extremely sharp images, giving us a stunning look at the SUV’s updated shape. It won’t rewrite the history of GLA-Class, as MercedesBenz will keep it closer in shape to a curvy crossover than an SUV. The , which was recently revealed as the GLB-Class, will fill that role.
This doesn’t mean that the new model will be identical to the older model, but it will have different headlights and wheels. We can see that the next GLA should have a slightly larger overall size, with more ground clearance and a taller greenhouse. It won’t grow much, but we don’t think it will.
GLB-Class The only compact seven-seat Merc is still available. However, a little more space on the exterior should allow for more legroom for five people inside. We can also see that the prototype has production-spec taillights and headlights. However, heavy camouflage hides any final design elements.
The new GLA-Class should feature the same front-wheel drive architecture as the A_Class or GLB-Class. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder should be paired with an eight-speed automatic in the U.S. market. This will produce 221 horsepower (164kW) and all-wheel drive is an option. Euro markets may see a smaller turbocharged 1.3-liter engine in the base model, while rumours suggest that an AMG variant will be available with up to 416 horsepower (310 kW).
It is rumored that GLA the 2020 model of the GLA will be unveiled in Frankfurt later this year. We’ve heard that the big reveal could take place next year. Given the amount of camouflage visible on test vehicles, however, we are inclined to believe otherwise. This model would be unveiled in 2020, but it will likely make its debut in 2021. Time will tell if this prediction is true.
