Lotus Type 62-2 By Radford Looks Even More Retrolicious On Video

Jenson Button (sorta) will reveal Radford’s next project.

Radford returns to coachbuilding after much teasing. He is joined by Ant Anstead, designer Mark Stubbs and Jenson Button, Formula One World Champion Jenson. What is the product? The amazing Lotus Type 62-2 – a coach built by Radford to mark the return of the nameplate.

The Lotus Type 62-2’s name refers to the Lotus Type 62 racing car of the ’60s. However, the current interpretation is a supercar that can be driven on the road. The Type 62-2 is even more retrolicious than the Top Gear video embedded atop the page.
There are three levels of Lotus Type 62-2. The base and subtly-styled Classic use the same supercharged 3.5-liter engine that produces 430 horsepower (321 kilowatts in the Lotus Evora).

You can see the mid-level Gold Leaf version in the video. It comes with a retro livery, and a prominent “double Ducktail” spoiler. The upgraded pistons, camshafts and engine output are available for 500 horsepower (373 kW).

The Type 62-2, or John Player special, is the version you can see in the gallery. It’s the highest-spec version. It has a stunning appearance and 600 horsepower (447 kW) of power thanks to a new supercharger.

Lotus is heading to an electric future:

Top Gear‘s initial look video included an interview with Ant Anstead, Jenson Button and a tour of their latest supercar. The most fascinating part of the conversation was Anstead’s reveal about Radford’s next product.

Radford had been working with OEMs, which means that he was contracted, inked and started. Button has already driven their next car. Surprisingly Radford’s next project won’t be a sports car.
