Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance Gets Offered With 1,050 HP and $179k

It is a Dream Edition with slightly less power.

Lucid’s Air Dream Edition has shaken the world. It is the fastest production car in the world, with 1,111 horsepower (828 kW), and a range of 520 mi (EPA-estimated). The Dream Edition is not available – the flagship model, which cost $169,000, sold almost a year ago. For $10,000 more, you can now get the 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance model.

This new model is just above the Air Grand Touring, as you would expect. The power is increased to 1,050 hp (783 kW), but this results in a lower 446-mile EPA estimated range when equipped with 21 inch wheels. The Air Grand Touring can travel 516 miles with 19-inch wheels and 469 with 21-inch wheels. Luciddoes not offer a Grand Touring Performance with a 19-inch wheel option.

Power is on the rise. Lucid says that the Air Grand Touring’s power output is 819 horsepower (611 kW), and the Performance model adds roughly the same amount as a Honda Civic Si with a little more. Lucid’s 900-volt architecture under the skin allows the luxury sedan to hit 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. It can also reclaim 300 miles in less than 21 minutes using a 350 kW fast charge.

“Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance responds to the strong demand that we continue to see from higher-performance Lucid Air models,” stated Peter Rawlinson (CEO and CTO at Lucid Group). Lucid’s vertical integration and in-house production for our proprietary EV powertrain technology is what allowed us to develop and bring this model to market at a remarkable pace.

Some readers might notice that the Air Grand Touring Performance’s 1,050 horsepower is slightly lower than the Dream Edition. The Dream Edition’s 520-mile range is not available to the Air Grand Touring Performance with 19-inch wheels. However, a apples-to-apples comparison of 21-inchers brings it down to 451 mi. The Air Grand Touring Performance’s 0-60 mph acceleration is almost equal. This could make it a Dream Edition alternative. It’s hard to overlook the $10,000 price increase for a vehicle with less power or range, starting at $179,000

Lucid states that the Air Grand Touring Performance will be available for purchase in June 2022 in the United States and August 2022 in Canada.
