U.S.-based TranStar Racing promises the Dagger GT will set major automotive records.
We first reported that the Dagger GT was in development back in July. This hypercar with 2000 horsepower was intended to change the record books. We were not expecting to see the project disappear into insignificance because of the unbelievable claims made.
Five months later, not much has changed except for a new rendering (7 high resolution photos attached), which shows subtle design changes. Although it isn’t much, the changes suggest that work is being done.
We are still skeptical, but we will soon see more concrete information. Here’s what we know about the Dagger GT: TranStar Racing has assembled a dream-team consisting of aerodynamics experts who were previously with NASA and the designer for the Saleen S7. TranStar promises that the car will break all records, including the Nurburgring Nordschleife time.
This design is based upon the Corvette Cheetah Concept with carbon fiber body panels and a 4130 Chromoly steel chassis.
What’s underneath the hood?
A 572 multi-fuel (petrol/methanol/hydrogen/ethanol) twin turbo racing unit from Nelson Racing Engines (makers of the of the 1800 bhp Mosler Red Devil) producing a whopping 1,491 kW (2,000 bhp / 2,028 PS). The torque peak is 2,710Nm (2,028 lb-ft), and the gearbox has a TranStar/Mendeola 6-speed transmission. TranStar recently added a 2500 bhp option!
Times promised In 1.5 seconds, you can go from 0-60 mph (96 km/h), Maximum speed of more than 483 km/h (300mph). Quarter-mile in under 6.7 seconds. It is very American and does a great job on straight lines. But how does it do with the 160 turns of the Nordschleife.
Prices will be at $450,000 (EUR360,000). Only 5 units are available in 2011, and 10 units will go on sale in 2012.
