Although the show is still some months away, the guest list is growing.
Christmas is less than a week away and the North American International Auto Show (Detroit) follows a few weeks later. However, the New York Auto Show organizers want to take you back a few months and give you a preview of what to expect in the Big Apple next Spring. By slight preview, we do mean very slight. Show representatives mentioned world debuts from Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan as well as Acura, Genesis (Porsche, Subaru, Kia) in a press release. Although the release mentions “many other” models, it does not list any. One of these possible debuts is Mercedes-Benz’s GLS-Class SUV. We can speculate about this. The Porsche 911 is now officially available.
John LaSorsa, show chairman, stated that “Once industry days and press have ended, we expect over one million consumers will come through the doors.” “Most of them will be there to compare and research models before they visit dealerships. Foresight Research recently released data that shows they visit our Show to see the latest vehicles, learn more about new technology, and make real decisions before making the next purchase.
Chevrolet is the only automaker that’s not listed on this list. We are referring to the highly anticipated Corvette, which was once expected to make its debut in Detroit. It is now expected that it will be available in New York. Word is that the decades-in-the-making supercar is having some serious electrical problems, so Chevy’s omission in this announcement could indicate the company isn’t sure the car will be ready in time. It could also be that Chevrolet is being cautious about the unveiling, after so much hype surrounding a Detroit reveal.
We can tell you that New York will be tough to follow from Detroit. In just over a month, the Motor City will be home to the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 as well as the all-new Toyota Supra.
