Marc Gemballa’s Offroad Porsche 911 Project: First Official Video

A Dakar-capable Porsche?

Marc Philipp Gemballa showed drawings last year for an off-road Porsche 911 project. The 959 that participated in the 1986 Paris Dakar rally was heavily influenced by this endeavor. In that event, the German automaker achieved a 1-2 finish. Recently, one of the prototypes was seen wandering in the Al Faya desert in Sharjah (UAE).

Gemballa, the younger, said that “we literally just returned from the desert after five day of intensive testing and filming for our official launch film,”. He also confirmed that both videos are authentic.

Although we don’t know for sure, it appears that the Porsche off-road will get more than just big tires and a lift kit. It will also likely receive a significant upgrade to the powertrain.

Many of you will be aware that power is only as good as control. Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH and BF Goodrich have teamed up to supply beefy tires for this powerful vehicle. Akrapovic is a partner for exhaust, VELA performance for engineering, DS Fasertechnik carbon fiber and KW for suspension. It is worth noting, however, that Mark Gemballa’s firm has nothing to do Gemballa GmbH (the well-known Porsche tuner).

We are eager to hear the final product’s sounds and sights, with the official video due out later in the month.
