The Martini design is etched onto the GT2 RS’ body. It’s not a vinyl wrap.

Porsche Retail Group GB created a special 911 GT2 RS with a white body and a variety of red and blue stripes. This style is a tribute to the 935/78 race car “Moby Dick.” It’s not surprising, given the popularity of Martini’s Porsche paint job, that this GT2 RS is being shown in the classic color scheme.

Porsche Retail Group GB says this is not a vinyl wrap that covers a GT2 RS. This intricate pattern is painted by the company at great expense and time. It would take a lot of work to mask different sections of the car in order to apply each color. Side sills that show the Moby Dick silhouette are available. 1978 refers to the year of Porsche’s competition use.

Moby Dick was named after the whale-like tail Porsche included in the rear of the Porsche 935 race car. Additional bodywork helped to reduce drag, which allowed for a higher top speed, particularly at Le Mans. It was able reach 227 mph (365 km/h) on the straights during the 24-hour race in France. Moby Dick won in 1978 the 6 Hours of Silverstone, and was eighth at Le Mans.

The GT2 RS is also very fast. The 3.8-liter biturbo flat 690 horsepower (615 kilowatts), and 553 pound-feet (775 Newton-meters), of torque is available. This powerful engine allows the coupe to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds. It can also achieve a top speed at 211 mph (354 kph).

Porsche’s marketing team ensures that everyone remembers its success in motorsport. The company raced two pairs of retro-themed 911 RSRs at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans. One was in Pink Pig livery, and the other was in a Rothmans-inspired outfit. They were first and second in each class.
