The powertrain is hidden by the fake intakes and charge port.
Maserati will launch an all-electric model of every model it makes, including the GranTurismo. This will be the brand’s first all-electric vehicle. Automaker GranTurismo is currently developing the next-generation GranCabriolet and GranTurismo. We have a new set of spy photos that gives us a first glimpse at the all-electric two door. It has some noticeable differences to the gas-powered model.
Although the coupe looks similar in these new photos, closer inspection reveals EV specific touches. The fake air intakes on the front bumper and no exhaust outlets at the rear make the car look less expensive. The most obvious sign is the absence of a fuel door in the rear fenders. Also, the location of the charge port – it is located underneath the taillights. Aerodynamically, the wheels also look better.
The GranTurismo E looks very similar to the gas-powered version, except for those minor changes. With familiar styling cues, Maserati design touches and familiar styling, the new GT doesn’t look much different from its predecessor. It looks like it is an evolution of the car before it. That’s not a bad thing. Maserati has added technology and new screens to the interior, which should be undergoing a major overhaul.
It is too early to know what powertrain will be used by the Maserati EV. We won’t be able to get any information about the all-electric motor until the launch of the new Maserati EV. The company has not yet provided any details. It will be fascinating to see how Maserati packs the powertrain into the 2-door. Most automakers are focusing on creating all-electric crossovers, SUVs and crazy hypercars. It will be important to track the range and weight.
GranTurismo will be available with several powertrains. The battery-electric model is likely to only make up a small portion of overall sales. Rumours persist that Maserati will use an inferior version of the 621-horsepower (456 kilowatts) twin-turbo Nettuno V6 in the MC20.
Maserati has not yet announced the debut date of the GranTurismo. We expect to see the new GT in early 2014, while the all-electric version will likely be revealed later. It is losing some of its camouflage so we expect a release of the gas-powered version soon.
