It draws inspiration from the Maserati Eldorado.
Maserati is working on a new supercar called the MC20. The Italian automaker has continued to tease the model after announcing it earlier in the year. It’s a little known fact, and May was the date when it was supposed to be revealed. However, Maserati decided to postpone the May unveiling event for September because of the coronavirus. The automaker has not stopped teasing us with the new model, but it is a little more special.
The automaker today announced that it would dedicate a unique MC20 proto to Sir Stirling Moss (British racer), who died April 12th at the age 90. The Maserati Eldorado design will be used for the prototype. Moss was the pilot of this model at Monza’s 1958 debut. Moss and Maserati have a long history together. Moss has been at the wheel of several Maserati models, including Tipo 60 Birdcage and Tipo 61.
Maserati’s MC20 photos show the supercar covered in camouflage. The angles aren’t flattering and likely an attempt to hide the design. They do give us a first glimpse at the rear. Camo covers most of the taillights but we can still see their design. They seem to be above the outlets located in the lower rear bumper. The Maserati trident is brightly red and the swirling camo has Stirling Moss branding.
According to the latest rumor, Maserati may be developing its own twin-turbocharged engine for the MC20. The engine could produce 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) and it will be paired with an eight-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. Rumours also suggest that Maserati may offer a hybrid version with an electric motor. Rumours also suggest that Maserati is working on a convertible version.
Maserati describes the MC20, which is being called the spiritual successor to the MC12 that arrived back in 2014, as the Ferrari Enzo’s underpinnings. Maserati will not reveal details about the powertrain or performance of the MC20. We won’t be able to know much more about the Maserati until September when they reveal it.
