Mazda CX-30EV EV is China’s First Electric Crossover

Is it really a Mazda?

We’ve had a great week of strange and amazing Chinese cars, but it was difficult to find details about some of those cars at the Auto Shanghai 2021. We’ve managed to find accurate information so far about the cars premiering in China. But, we have really struck the jackpot with this electric Mazda crossover.

Let’s begin with the basics. This is an official Mazda product. It also bears the CX-30EV name, as shown on the badge replacing the front registration plate. Official information states that the zero emission vehicle will be available in China during the second half. We almost forgot to mention that the Japanese car manufacturer has added a crossover model with an electric drive to their portfolio with the launch.

That’s all we have at the moment. Our colleagues did some research and found that the CX-30 could be a joint venture between Mazda and Chinese company Changan. According to some reports, Mazda was responsible for the design and Changan the powertrain.

We could be looking at a Changan S15 E-Pro and CS55 E-Rock electric cars with a Mazda body. Both the former uses a 48.3 kWh pack and the latter uses an 84.2 kWh pack. Both cases use a significantly larger MX-30 35.5 kWh battery.

InsideEVs attempted to contact Mazda and requested more information, but we still haven’t heard back from them. You can view the first Mazda electric car in China by clicking the video at top of the page. Keep checking back for more information.
