European buyers have the option of purchasing the SkyactivX mill with front- or all-wheel drive.

Motor1.com reached Mazda North America to inquire about the SkyactivX engine’s potential arrival in the United States. The following statement was sent by the company:

“We are currently evaluating when Skyactiv-X should be launched in North America. This is taking into account the market environment and market needs. Skyactiv-X is just one way we make our cars more competitive. Continuous updates are being made to existing Skyactiv–G and Skyactiv–D engines. These include cylinder deactivation, optimising displacements, and adding turbocharging. Our approach to all new technologies is to analyze the market, regulations, and business environment and determine the best technologies and when to introduce them. “

After printing figures In a Slovakian market brochure Mazda has confirmed the official European specifications for its highly anticipated Mazda MX-5. Skyactiv-X Engine in the Mazda3 . The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 177 horsepower (132 Kilowatts) as well as 165 pound-feet (228 Newton-meters). The new Mazda3 will be available for delivery in the fall. Pricing is not yet available. The specs of the Mazda3 with the new mill were very similar to the ones from Slovakia, which had 178 horsepower (133 kW) & 164 lbft (222 Nm) respectively.

Skyactiv-X engines in the Mazda3 come standard with a 24-volt mildly hybrid system. This tech can harvest energy from deceleration and release it to increase fuel economy.

European customers can order the SkyactivX engine in either a sedan or hatchback body style. Customers can also choose between a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Skyactiv-X engine is at its best in the front-wheel-drive, six-speed manual sedan. It delivers 5.4 liters of combined fuel economy per 100 km in the WLTP test. This is approximately equivalent to 44 MPG, however, it is worth noting that the American EPA evaluation of the Mazda3 is different. Therefore, the Mazda3 equipped with this mill will not receive an identical rating in the United States.

Skyactiv-X engines can run on both spark-controlled ignition like gasoline-fueled cars, or compression ignition like a diesel. The mill will soon be available in Europe , Japan. However, Mazda has yet to say when the powerplant will be available in the U.S. The Mazda3 is currently available in the USA only with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated producing 186 horsepower (139 kW), and 186lb-ft (252Nm)
