Can the McLaren lighter than the Superfast more powerful?
Which supercar is the better in a classic matchup of turbocharged and naturally-aspirated supercars? This is what we have – a drag race between the McLaren 600LT (courtesy of Carwow). Both cars are European, and they are both incredibly powerful machines, despite being older.
Although the 812 Superfast appears to have the advantage due to its powerful V12 engine, there are other factors that can offset this advantage. Which one do you think won straight-line? Let’s get to the numbers.
The McLaren600LT has a twin-turbo, 3.8-liter V8. It produces 592 horsepower (441 Kilowatts) as well as 457 pound-feet (602 Newton-meters). These numbers are transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox that includes launch control.
The Ferrari 812 Superfast produces 789 horsepower (588 kW) as well as 530 lb/ft (718 Nm), from its normally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12. The McLaren also has a seven speed DCT, which sends all power to the rear wheels.
The McLaren is a significant weight advantage over the 812 Superfast.
McLaren 600LT is significantly lighter than Ferrari’s 3,968 lb (1,800 kg). For the 600LT to be able to carry the same weight as the 812 Superfast, it will need to hold around four to five people. This should have a significant impact on the outcome of this drag racing race.
