McLaren 720S Gets a Run for Its Money With Tuned BMW M5

It’s a battle between two very different vehicles.

The McLaren 720S drag king is undisputed. It can cover 1/4-miles in under 10 seconds even in bone stock, which is quite impressive. The BMW M5 performance sedan is a different story with a time of 10.9 seconds for 1/4-mile.

This last number holds true when the Bavarian family spacecraft is in its factory condition and has not been modified. With some software and hardware tweaks we’ve seen just how powerful the twin-turbo V8 engine of 4.4-liters is. This brings us to today’s drag racing.

As you probably guessed, this video is a pitting a modified BMW M5 against a stock McLaren 720S. The description of the clip does not give any more details about the modifications to the M5 and states that the car has approximately 840 horsepower.

The sedan is now in a much better position than its British counterpart. The 720S is a Woking-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. It produces 710 horsepower and a seven speed automatic gearbox takes them to the rear wheels. The car is a coupe and weighs in at 3,167 lbs (1.437 kg), while the M5 is considerably heavier at 4,370 lbs (1.982 kg).

With all these numbers, which car do YOU think will win this unique drag race?
