The F1 GTR’s 25th anniversary victory on the Sarthe is commemorated by the special 720.
McLaren is best known for its modern supercars, such as the Senna or the Speedtail. However, the brand’s reputation was built on racing. A McLaren F1 GTR, which was based on the F1 supercar, won the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance racing race. The company decided to celebrate the occasion with a special edition 720S.
With a few throwback styling accents, the 720S Le Mans is reminiscent of the race-winning F1 GTR driven by Yannick Damas, JJ Lehto and Masanori Sekiya. The most obvious is the heritage-inspired color scheme: Sarthe Grey with a gloss-black roof and body components, and Ueno Grey lower-body accents. This closely matches the Le Mans F1. McLaren Orange is another option for potential owners. This sinister-pumpkin colorway recalls any number special McLaren models from history.
The 720S Le Mans’ most striking feature is its set of throwback LM style wheels. They pay homage to the #59 F1 GTR with “Le Mans” etching. The special edition includes a roof scoop that channels air to cool the engine. Louvered front fenders improve handling and reduce lift. Carbon fiber racing seats in carbon fiber with McLaren Orange and Dove Grey accents make the Le Mans a unique Mclaren 720S.
McLaren will offer a full range of MSO Definition and MSO Bespoke options for those who don’t think the special edition is special enough. The optional extras include a titanium harness bar, six-point racing harnesses, and a 720S Le Mans. This makes the 720S Le Mans a more faithful tribute to its predecessor.
Limited-production McLarens will be made available in Europe. Prices for the United Kingdom start at PS254,000 GBP (or $318,830 USD) according to current exchange rates. Only 50 McLaren 720S Le Mans units will be produced.
