GT3 racer uses the same twin turbo V8 engine of 3.8-liters as the production model, but only 500 PS (368kW / 493bhp) instead the 600 PS series (541/ 592 bhp).
McLaren MP4-12C GT3 specs have been released. It is surprising that it actually produces less power than the road-going MP4-12C.
GT3’s twin turbo V8 engine, 3.8-liter (known internally as M838T), is the same but has 500 PS instead of 600 PS (441kW / 592bhp).
This compensates for the loss of power by improving aerodynamics and weight reductions, especially in the six-speed sequential gearbox that weighs 80kg less than street-legal’s seven-speed version.
The GT3 gets a race suspension, and borrows F1 technology for the steering wheel and tires.
The MP4-12C GT3 will race at selected endurance events in 2011, including the Blancpain Endurance Series at Circuito de Navarra, Spain, and the 24 hrs at Spa. The Goodwood Festival of Speed will also feature the car as a special guest.
The price for a ready-to-race McLaren MP4-12C GT3 is PS310,000. Andrew Kirkaldy is the CRS Racing Team Principal, and McLaren GT Project Manager. He said, “Having been a customer for many years of GT car manufacturers, I’m thrilled we can now offer a carbon-chassis based GT3 car at PS310,000. We will not hide costs, and will support as many races we can.
