McLaren P14 Mule captured in bright sunlight

McLaren’s 650S successor is now in focus. It takes a lot from the P1.

McLaren will debut the P14 at the Geneva Motor Show, March as a replacement for its 650S. The spy photos give us another look at this supercar before it is revealed.

This prototype shows McLaren’s major departure from the 650S with the P14. The spy shots reveal additional intakes in the bumper. The hood is shaved to show that engineers pay a lot of attention the supercar’s aerodynamics. The long rear recalls the P1. McLaren’s camouflage doesn’t conceal a large number of outlets or vents at the rear. The high-mounted exhausts also likely indicate that McLaren has significant air management.

An earlier spy photo shows the interior, with an instrument panel which has a simple digital cluster. The driver can move it down in Track Mode to get a better view of what’s ahead.

The P14’s power is still up for debate. There is some debate about the powertrain of the P14. The supercar will have a 4.0-liter V8 with 720 horsepower (537kilowatts), and later hybrid versions might be even more powerful. But, earlier reports indicated McLaren would upgrade the biturbo V8 to produce less than 700 horsepower (522 kW).

We are certain, regardless of the power source, that it is in an updated McLaren MonoCell carbon fibre monocoque. These tweaks will make the chassis lighter than before.

McLaren is already showing wealthy clients the finished design ahead of the Geneva debut. We will have to wait for the Swiss public unveiling in a few weeks.
