McLaren Senna, 911 Battle 10 Other Cars In ‘Greatest’ Drag Race

Vandenberg Air Force Base’s runway transforms into a horsepower playground with 12 cars.

Drag racing side-by-side with fast cars is thrilling. Three-way racing is more fun, but it’s also possible to have four cars in a race. MotorTrend has a history of hosting crazy drag races. The latest MotorTrend World’s Greatest Drag Race featured 12 cars racing down Vandenberg Air Ford Base’s 15,000-foot runway in California.

This lineup also shows a mismatch in machinery. The McLaren Senna stands out. It’s not because it’s in the middle, but the huge wing and aerobodywork make it difficult to miss, even amongst a slew of supercars. Although the Porsche 911 Carrera S, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and BMW 850i xDrive are also present, the Bentley Continental GT, BMW M2 Competition, and the BMW M2 Competition are all more GT cars than the Senna hypermachine.

A few sedans are also in the mix, including the Mercedes AMG GT 634 4MATIC as well as Jaguar’s E SV Project 8. The Lamborghini Urus is the sole SUV, while the Toyota Supra holds the title. The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 are American muscle. Yes, that was GT350. The GT500 was not invited to the party for reasons that were not covered in the video.

There’s still almost 7,000 horsepower available on the tarmac, and the runway is large enough to allow all of them run simultaneously. This is the ideal venue for a quarter mile sprint. The countdown has 0 and there are no surprises. Despite being far less powerful than most other cars, the 911 completely tears apart at the finish line. The McLaren’s aero skills and horsepower make an impressive display as the speed increases. It is ahead in the pack.

When you have almost three miles of runway, why hold a drag race that is only quarter-mile long? There’s another race, which spans the length of a quarter-mile and gives supercars that are 200 mph a chance to stretch their legs. Is there anything that can challenge the Senna’s speed? We’ll let the video do that, but the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is strong at one end of the strip.
