Ultimate versus Super. Which would you bet on?
The McLaren Senna car is great. We’re not talking about the exoticity of it or the fact that only 500 units were built in Woking, England. The Senna is a tribute for Ayrton Senna (former Brazilian Formula One racer), which was a great success story for McLaren Formula One in the late ’80s to early ’90s.
McLaren The Senna was designed for the race track. The lightweight body is aerodynamically optimized to allow for incredible lap times. This makes the Senna part of McLaren Ultimate Series cars.
The Senna is the McLaren’s fastest food chain. But is it faster than the McLaren? DragTimes pitted the Ultimate McLaren against a 720S that is lightning fast in a drag race. Let’s first look at the numbers.
The 720S’ twin-turbo V8 engine produces 710 horsepower (530 kilowatts), and 568 pound feet (770 Newton-meters). The 720S is light at 3,167 pounds (1.437 kg).
The Senna has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 789 horsepower (588 kW) as well as 590 lb/ft (800 Nm). It weighs in at just 3,030 lbs (1.374 kg) and is made up of lots of carbon fiber bits.
The Senna was designed for track racing. Its aerodynamic body kit can create drag which could cause the Senna to lose its position in the race. Brooks explained that the 720S is equipped with a more stickier set tires on the drag racing.
