The championship race is underway
Yesterday, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One Team revealed their new car for 2008 F1 Championship. This was just hours after arch-rivals Ferrari had released their car. The McLaren MP4-23’s FO 108V Mercedes-Benz engine will power the McLaren MP4-23. It is based on 2007 FO 108T. The engine experienced no failures in the 17 races last season. Just like the 2008 F1 entries, the specifications for the 2008 engine will be frozen until the conclusion of the 2010 season.
New rules established by the FIA include the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) developed by McLaren Electronic Systems. This eliminates driver’s aids like traction control.
2008 will also see the inaugural night-time race. It will be held in Singapore, and Lewis Hamilton is excited about it. He stated, “I believe it will be wicked. It will be a new experience for fans and a lot of fun for the drivers.
Heikki Kovalainen, a new-to-the team, responded to questions about the Singapore race. “Foto racing is a great thing as long as everything’s safe and the lights work well. Formula 1 is very different from football and will have a greater effect if the light goes out.”
In March 2008, the first race of the season takes place in Sydney (Australia).
