Max Chilton, an ex-F1 driver, completed the course in 39.08 seconds. Street version will run seven figures.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed’s cutest car this year is also the fastest to climb the hill. The McMurtry Speirling, a tiny car of McMurtry size, set a new record by finishing the course in just 39.08 seconds. Max Chilton, formerly IndyCar and Formula 1 driver, was behind the wheel. After completing the course in 39.08 seconds, McMurtry Speirling set a record on Sunday. He had previously completed the second-best lap with a time 40.056 seconds.
Autocar had a conversation with the company’s managing Director who said that a street-legal vehicle is in the making. Thomas Yates claims it will deliver the same neck-twisting acceleration, but warns that it won’t feel as comfortable over speed bumps. The production will be limited to a handful of units, and each unit will cost PS1 million. At current exchange rates, that works out to $1.22M or EUR1.16M.
Yates stated that the production model will still have a power-to-weight ratio at 1,000 hp per ton, along with two rear-mounted electric motors as well as a 60-kWh battery pack capable of providing more than 300 miles (483 km) of range. The Speirling won’t be as aerodynamic than the Goodwood car by adding mandatory headlights and windscreen wipers. McMurtry claims that the track-only EV generates more downforce at speeds up to 150 mph (241 km/h).
The company’s managing director said that a second model was already in the works and will be smaller than the Speirling. What was the size of the FoS car? It measured only 3.5m (137.8 in) in length, 1.7m (66.9in) in width, and 1.1m (43.3in) high.
