This Ford-loving family man is a big fan of his Ford Bronco.
Ross Musick is a musician and father. He’s owned 13 Ford products over his life. One standout is a 188,000 mile Ford Flex he bought lightly used in 2017, with only 30,000 miles. He notes that the SUV has accumulated a lot of mileage between his Ohio home and various locations along the east coast.
“My wife’s parents are in Florida so we drove down to Central Florida for some events. It also took us up to Detroit, Savannah, and Hilton Head. The car never stopped, it just didn’t quit.
Ross knew that he had to replace the beloved SUV in his family’s life. He was looking for a Ford Bronco. He fired up his computer on July 13, 2020 in the hope of becoming one of Ford’s first customers.
“I was online last July 13th at 8:00 pm. Ross shared his knowledge with us via phone interview. “I knew the Bronco was coming and I was ready that evening – as soon as I saw the reservation bank open I was ready,” Ross said. “The site crashed due to so many people, so I poured some Bourbon and sat down until 9:45. It was 45 minutes and an hour later that my reservation was actually confirmed. But that was a great experience.
Ross chose a Big Bend model that features the turbocharged EcoBoost inline-4 base turbocharged at 2.3-liters. This produces a solid 275 horsepower (205kilowatts). To hide dirt his children might bring in, the interior is black and dark space gray. The exterior features Ford’s Cactus Grey paint. After he became the owner of his Bronco, he was one of the first to do so in the country. Immediately, curious people began asking Ross questions.
“The grocery store, the gas station – you have to add 10 minutes to get it all done. Everyone wants to know ‘what’s it?’ and ‘when did it come out.’ And they also ask ‘what’s your name for this color?
“I was driving on Saturday night, heading to a gig, when I saw a car pull up next to me. It’s a Bronco Sport… it seems like there’s a family thing growing.”
Although Ross only has his Bronco for a short time, he has big plans to use the SUV over the next months and years. The Bronco can be used to transport the kids to local baseball tournaments or date nights. But Ross and his family will also be able to take the Bronco on road trips, just like the Flex.
“We plan to go up to the Woodward Dream Cruise in this year… We’ll also try to make a few weekend getaways to the Hocking hills in the summer to spend a couple nights there and see how we can get off-road a bit more.”
