Mercedes A-Class Spy Pics Reveal Updated Hatch, Sedan and AMG Models

Inside and out, the lineup gets a gentle makeover.

Mid-cycle redesign will be done to the current-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which debuted in 2019. A whole fleet of A-Class development mules has been tested by the German automaker, and new spy photos bring everyone together. These photos show the whole A-Class range, including the sedan, hatch, and two AMG variants.

New spy photos show cars with very minimal camouflage. Depending on the model, only a portion of the rear and front fascias is covered. They don’t conceal much. Mercedes will follow a traditional approach to updating A-Class. They will tweak the styling but not much else.

The A-Class’s new grille will be a mesh one, and the AMG versions will sport the Panamericana. All models will get updated headlights, and the taillights will have new graphics. The subtle updates are not noticeable on the interior. The A-Class will get a new center console and instrument panel, which are compatible with MBUX’s latest infotainment software.

If any powertrain updates are made, the minor visual changes will likely result in a modest update to the car’s exterior. Mercedes could continue to use the existing engines, but that will not be known until the debut.

Mercedes will continue to offer AMG A35 variants and AMG A45 variants. The A35’s current turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder produces 302 horsepower (225kilowatts) as well as 295 pound-feet (405 Newton-meters). The new engine should be the same. The same applies to the AMG A45, which also has a turbo2.0-liter engine. However, it can produce up to 416 horsepower (310 kW) or 369 lbft (500 Nm), in the A45 S version. The A45 S and A45 S will not be affected.

The updated A-Class range will be revealed by Mercedes sometime in the year. This is before the small car goes on the market for the 2023 model year. It won’t be available in the US, however, as Mercedes plans to withdraw the model from the US following the 2022 model-year. American buyers will be able to purchase the CLA Mercedes, however.
