BMW will celebrate 50 years of its M division in 2022. However, archrival Mercedes is also marking its anniversary. AMG’s performance branch is also celebrating its 55th birthday with several special editions. The A35, CLA 35 and G63 were all seen in the “Edition 55” flavors. Now it’s time to see the CLA 45 Edition 55. The A45 hatchback is now joined by the CLA 45 Shooting Brake.
Mercedes-AMG has only shown images of the slimmer sedan. It will be the only model of the trio that will be sold in the United States, where the wagon and hatch body styles are unavailable. Sporty compact cars get the AMG Aerodynamic package, which includes a thicker front apron with a bulky splitter and bumper guards. The new deflectors at the back are what we believe to be “simulated air outlets,” but that is just a fancy way of saying fake vents.
Affalterbach claims that all these extras are more than just for display after they were developed in the wind tunnel. Mercedes adds the Night Package to the Edition 55. It includes a variety of glossy black exterior elements as well as quad exhaust tips with dark chrome finishes. The Panamericana grille is now available with black louvers, and the badges are also available in black.
Customers have the option of choosing from either Digital White Metallic or stealthy Cosmos Black Metallic. All cars are equipped with 19-inch AMG wheels in Titanium Grey with “Edition 55”, lettering on the centre caps. The retro decal runs along the bottom of the doors and prominently displays the AMGlogo. To emphasize the point, even the silver fuel filler cap has AMG lettering.
You will find more Edition 55 references inside the red and black cabin. There is also two-tone leather upholstery, and a black 12-o’clock marking on your steering wheel. Red AMG logos light up the door sill plates and you can even purchase AMG-branded black Velour Floor Mats with red stitching.
For those who spend more than a 45 or 45 S model, they get an indoor car cover in black and a silver AMG logo. If you want to upgrade to the more powerful S model, this Edition 55 package is available for EUR14.280 or EUR12.614 (German pricing). These cars are available for order now and will be offered until December. Only 55 CLAs will be available in the US. Pricing information will be revealed later in the year.
