C63 Black Series may not be possible.
Tobias Moers (Mercedes-AMG chief honcho) has shared with CarAdvice the details of what is in store for the and C63 line-ups. He also revealed some details about what’s not happening. All C63-badged models will continue to be rear-wheel-driven as Affalterbach has decided not to offer the coupe, cabrio, and sedan the 4Matic configuration.
Although there were rumors that the facelift would bring an AWD layout, we now know it is a no-no. Moers joked about AMG having an AWD-equipped C63. He referred to the newly introduced GLC63, and GLC63 Coupe crossovers. These get the grippy hardware of the new E63. AMG’s boss pointed out that an AWD setup for C63s is unlikely this generation. However, it’s possible it will be available on the next-gen models due to arrive after the decade.
Moers also stated that a Black Series C63 with a strong engine would have to be rear-wheel-drive. He isn’t sure if it will get green-lit, however, as Mercedes’ performance arms has so much on its plate, Moers said, “I don’t know if this’s going to happen.”
Moers stated that there is still plenty of room for improvement in the C63, with the C-Class facelift due to arrive next year. This would be the silver lining. The C63 will be likely upgraded for its mid-cycle refresh, even though there won’t actually be a Black Series model. Perhaps he was referring to the C63R which will receive more power, better aero and a diet. It’s possible that this was the more powerful C63 Coupe prototype that was spotted in October 2016. Fingers crossed.
