AMG’s next king twin turbo diesel turbo diesel, Super Hammer, will be available in the next three-years. Most likely, the E-Class will be the first to reap these benefits.
Comic books feature Superman. Super Hammer will now be available in the world of cars. This is not related to either the super-hero or the bankrupt rapper. Super Hammer will arrive in the next three years and will be powered by Mercedes-Benz’s AMG high-performance division.
Autocar spoke with Volker Mornhinweg, AMG’s head of operations. He said that the Super Hammer would be reminiscent of the W124 E-Class-based AMG Hammer. This was a sharp shooter and high-pitched machine complete with a petrol engine. Diesel is your daddy this time, and yes, he will deliver. A twin turbo diesel is a possibility, which will produce that magic 500bhp figure. This is a big number for a diesel but diesels are not about horses, but torque. At such a power level, torque can be expected to be at least 900Nm.
Super Hammer won’t be a large car, opting instead for the chassis of the C-Class. This will most likely be the first time that the C-Class is seen inside the next E-Class. These bodies are ideal for Mornhinweg’s goals of making the car small, light, and efficient. Super Hammer will also include coupes and cabriolets.
AMG has produced a diesel before in 2002. It was the C30 AMG, which was based on the Sport Coupe body. While today’s “normal” higher-end diesels can produce the same power and torque as this car, it was a remarkable achievement back in 2002.
