The prototype features a rear steering feature.
Mercedes-Benz’s new GLC-Class was unveiled a month ago as the latest competitor in one the most competitive vehicle segments in the world. The compact crossover is available in the GLC 300 and GLC 300 4Matic grades. Both are powered by a four cylinder engine. The Stuttgart-based automaker is currently working on the new GLC 63. We have spy photos that show a prototype being tested on public roads.
The camouflage on this test vehicle is a bit lower than that of the before it, and there are some visual differences over the GLC. The Panamericana grille can be seen flanked with full-LED headlights. The front bumper features new, larger air intakes in its lower section and a different lower grille. The bumper has been modified to accommodate a new diffuser that includes four exhaust pipes. A new spoiler is also found on the roof.
The GLC63 seems to be lower than the standard, which shouldn’t surprise. The track is wider, and the wheels are larger. The rear wheels of the GLC 2023 GLC have steering. This feature is also available on other models. This tech will not be available for the US versions because of a low take rate. We suspect that the GLC63 will not make any difference.
Although we can’t confirm the details, we do know that there is an electrified turbocharged 2.0-liter mill in place of a V8. It will bring a significant power boost, although it will be difficult to understand for purists. The preliminary reports indicate that this powertrain will generate up to 670 horsepower (500 megawatts) and more than 150 hp (110kW) more than the twin-turbocharged engine V8 from the previous generation C63. The inline-four engine will produce 400 horsepower (294 kW), while the electric motor will provide the remainder of the power.
