Mercedes-AMG GT-73e Spied Testing at The Nurburgring

It could be heating up the Green Hell to set another record.

The new 2021 Panamera broke the Nurburgring record for fastest executive car – a title that the AMG GT 63 S had held for nearly two years. Mercedes reacted to Porsche’s announcement a few weeks later. It teased that it would be returning to the ‘Ring to regain its crown.

The silent war at Stuttgart seems to be moving forward. An AMG GT 73e was spotted warming up Green Hell on YouTube’s statesidesupercars. It’s only a matter time before Mercedes announces a new lap mark with the hybrid four-door coupe’s debut, if at all.

The GT 73e is a hybrid model, identified by the yellow sticker. It produces around 800 horsepower (597 kilowatts) and draws power from its 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 engine and electric motor. This is a significant increase in output from the GT 63 S’s 630 hp (475 kW) or 664 lb (900 Nm), respectively.

These numbers suggest that Panamera may be unable to break the record at the ‘Ring, but Mercedes has yet to make it official. The spy video below looks promising, and we cannot wait to see the hybrid model.

The debut of the AMG GT 73e, its alleged monicker, has been a long wait since last year’s first reports about the electrified model. It’s likely that the launch of the production-ready prototype is near the end of the year, as we’ve seen it several times.
