The turbocharged 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 that is F1-derived is also pretty cool.
It’s almost as if we have seen the Mercedes-AMG One before. It’s been five years in development, and we’ve seen many prototypes. This is the first time that anyone has ever seen an F1-powered hypercar at a race track. The video is impressive.
It might disappoint those looking for absolute speed from the start. The production-spec AMG Onecasually made its public debut at this year’s 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It gained some speed through the first turn, but was clearly far from its potential. The driver stopped in the spectator area to demonstrate the technical side the multi-million-dollar car. After a short pause, One lifted itself off the ground and raised the rear spoiler. The flaps on the front offenders were also opened. Takeoff checklist complete.
The action picked up significantly from there. As the tiny V6 roars through its rev range, we are treated to an aural delight. Although it sounds like a Formula 1 car with lower crescendos, it does sound very similar. The AMG One’s engine revs at 11,000 RPM, while F1 cars go a little higher. This is still remarkable considering it’s a production car that conforms to emission regulations. The AMG One’s 1,049 combined horsepower (782 Kilowatts) is achieved when all the components work together. It then distributes that power to all four wheels.
Mercedes claims that the AMG One can hit 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. That is definitely fast. It remains to be determined if it will challenge the historical hill climb track record. We expect it to clock an impressive time after the exhibition runs, thanks to its 1,000-hp engine and active aero components.
