Mercedes-AMG One Production Version Released Before June 1st Debut
Finally, the F1-engined roadcar is available.

Mercedes-AMG will soon unveil the One hypercar in production. Don’t believe the hype! After multiple delays due to development hurdles, Project One’s concept car debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017. Now, the F1-engined roadcar is ready for primetime. The world premiere of the AMG Road Car Division and F1 Branch will be announced on Wednesday, June 1st.

We’ve seen a lot of spy shots that suggest the final version will be identical to the concept car. Mercedes CEO joked that chief honchos were “drunk” as they approved a Formula 1 car for road use. The Affalterbach peeps confirmed that the electrified hypercar would be in production by mid-2022. It looks like the One will follow the Aston Martin Valkyrie as an F1-inspired machine.

The CLK GT spiritual successor has been sold at $2.7 million per unit and is now available in 275 units. The turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, which was adapted from F1, will be combined with four electric motors to produce a total of over 1,000 horsepower. The V6 engine will be the V6’s highest-revving engine, revving at 11,000 rpm. This Mercedes road car will be the most powerful ever. To comply with regulations, one of the major issues was to reduce the engine’s idle speed to 1,200 rpm.

To echo the Project One, the all-wheel-drive monster should be able to go from 0 to 124 MPH (200 km/h), and can reach speeds of over 217 MPH (350 km/h). According to the latter, it has a range of 25 km (15.5 miles). The combustion engine and its electric turbo will need to be rebuilt after 50,000 km (roughly 31,000 miles).

Many will recall Tobias Moers’ bold statement in September 2018, when he claimed that the One could increase the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo’s lap time around Nurburgring. Zuffenhausen’s race car completed the Nordschleife in just 5 minutes, 19.55 seconds. It would have been extraordinary to beat that time with a car bearing a license plate.

It’s not going to be faster but it is certain that the production car record will soon fall. Everyone expects the AMG One (and Valkyrie), to shave a lot of seconds off the 63:30 lap time set by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS equipped with the Manthey Performance Kit.
