The head honchos have made every effort to revamp the luxobarge. The AMG S65 will be discontinued, but the Germans still plan to make two AMG versions of the S-Class.

Our spies spotted the S63e being tested earlier in the week. Notice the “e”, in the name of the car? According to rumors, it will be a hybrid V8 engine with around 700 horsepower. However, the Panamericana grille is a dead giveaway that this is not a simple S powered by a small gasoline or diesel engine. The top-tier models will have larger air intakes in the front and a discrete rear diffuser. These cues are reserved for higher-end models, which will likely ride lower on larger wheels.

The wraps will be removed sometime in the second half of next year. The S-Class family will also be expanded with an unconfirmed S73e with a higher-spec electric motor that can produce 800 hp combined. The AMG S will only be available with four doors, as the S63/S65 Coupe or Convertible won’t be renewed.

If you place cylinder count above all else, the twin-turbo, 6.0-liter V12 will continue to be available in the new S-Class. It will only be available in the ultra-lux Maybach, where it will be connected to a 4Matic system. Next month will see the debut of the model with the double M emblem.
