Camper for a cause

Motor1.com has seen many off-road campers. We’ve got a lot of options for you, from budget-friendly to luxury. This week’s offroad camping machine is a bit more luxurious.

Krug Expedition bought a Mercedes-Benz Atego1023 A S-cab to transform it into a comfortable wheeled glamper. Krug Expedition gave the Atego the Project Rhino a more robust exterior and added a 4.3-by-2.2-meter box at its back to make it a comfortable living space.

Project Rhino’s front boasts two protective headlight covers as well as a large roof rack that resides above the cab. The side door leads to the living area, while the front cab opens into the living room via a passageway. The windows have safety glass panes that pop out and there’s a large storage box at the rear. Even small motorcycles can fit in the “garage”.

Project Rhino’s living area includes a double bed, wardrobe and bathroom. You will need to pass through the bathroom in order to reach the driver’s cab. Project Rhino’s sliding table allows you to dine in comfort, and the vinyl flooring makes spillage-free cleanup easy. With its integrated induction cooker, sink and stove, you can cook and prepare the meals in the camper.

Project Rhino has many options that are worth considering. It can be equipped with an onboard battery charger or a compact air conditioner, as well as an internet router. If you have concerns about your water supply, you can get a water filter or a treatment unit. Satellite television, washer and dryer and an overcover are all available for interior options.

The standard OM 934 diesel engine found in the Atego powers this camper. The OM 934 turbodiesel, a 5.1-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel, produces 231 horsepower (170 kilowatts), and a torque figure 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters). It has an automatic transmission and three locking differentials to ensure it moves on rough terrain.

Krug Expedition claims that the proceeds from any sale or rental of the camper will be donated to a worthy cause. Krug Expedition will donate to Nkombe Rhino in South Africa, an organization that protects rhinos and other endangered species. This is also why the vehicle bears the name Project Rhino.

Project Rhino has no set price as each build is custom-made for the user. Prices range from 300,000 euros ($ 331,350), to around 330,000 euros ($ 364,485).
