Mercedes equipped a 1992 Mercedes 190 E 2.6 Sportline in a modern diesel engine, the C250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY.

The “new” 190D BlueEFFICIENCY is designed to show the advancements in diesel technology over the past 20 years. It features an OM651 common rail diesel engine with 150 kW (204 hp), and 500 Nm torque. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is 6.2 seconds. This is a remarkable improvement on the 18.1 second time taken by the 1983 190 D.

The OM651’s 500 Nm torque (which is twice as powerful as the W 201-series’ most powerful model, the 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II built for DTM homologation) is responsible for this huge performance leap. The OM651 engine has 72 hp more power than the OM601 engine from 1988 and consumes 2.4 liters/100 km less.

The C 250 CDIBlueEFFICIENCY, 385 kg heavier than the Mercedes 190 D is, has more interior space, a longer wheelsbase, new luxury items, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced safety features.
