As oil prices rise, the compact SUV market is becoming more competitive. New models are appearing all the time to meet the needs of consumers who want smaller SUVs. Mercedes can’t afford to rest on its laurels. The all-new GLK was revealed in production form at Auto China in April. This followed a long-running PR campaign that included two preproduction GLK concepts, the Townside.
The new model incorporates many of the latest Mercedes technologies, including 4MATIC all wheel-drive, Agility Control suspension and Intelligent Light System. The GLK 220 CDI 4MATIC blueEFFICIENCY is the entry-level four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 170 horsepower. For those who want more power and torque, the GLK 350 petrol engine with a 3.5-liter V6 produces 272hp.
The sales of the compact SUV began at the end June with the release of the Edition 1 model. It features 20-inch wheels, EASY PACK tailgate, privacy glasses, and an interior sports package that includes black-white nappa leather, disigno range AMG leather steering, aluminum trim, and COMANDAPS system.
