MCL SUV Coupe will replace the BMW X6.
Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, has announced that it will expand production at its Tuscaloosa plant to produce a fifth model.
The German automaker will invest $350 million in the plant and create 400 jobs to support additional production. Mercedes-Benz currently manufactures the M-, R- and GL-Class models at the plant. In North America, the M-Class is known as the ML-Class. Mercedes-Benz has plans for the production of the C-Class there, which will be completed in 2014.
A previous report stated that the fifth model will be the MLC SUV coupe. It is based on M-Class and will compete with the BMW X6 in market share.
Daimler announced earlier this year that it would invest $2 billion in Tuscaloosa to increase production. This expansion includes a $350 million investment in the new model.
