All new C-Class models will see a significant drop in fuel consumption, and they will be eligible for BlueEFFICIENCY starting in spring 2008.
Mercedes-Benz’s BlueEfficiency program will be sold within the C-Class range starting in spring 2013. Next month, BlueEfficiency will be available in Geneva for the C 350 CGI.
Merc claims that the system reduces fuel consumption by as much as 12 percent in the C180 KOMPRESSOR or C200 CDI cars. The latter 100kW saloon achieves an annual average of 5.1 litres/100km at 135g CO2 and the former 115kW car is a 6.5 litres/100km with BlueEfficiency and 156g CO2 engines. The green altar has not sacrificed performance. C 180 KOMPRESSOR can still do 0 – 100 km/h within 9.5 seconds, while C 200 CDI takes 10.4 seconds. Although not quite as fast as AMG, that is not our goal.
The tyres are not being pulled to aid, and Michelin provides lighter rubber for lower resistance. This helps reduce fuel consumption. To achieve these figures, other small changes were made such as smoothing the underbody for better air flow and lowering the suspension for better aerodynamics. The radiator grille was also blocked to reduce wind resistance.
These are extraordinary efforts to reach stringent EU emission laws. They also ensure that the world stays largely unchanged for at least 100 years.
