Mercedes C-Class Cabriolet Spy video captures sporty exhaust note

It will not be available for sale until 2023.

We got our first glimpse at the next-generation Mercedes Benz C-Class Cabriolet earlier this week. Many didn’t expect Mercedes this model to be developed as consumers move away from sedans and coupes and in favour of SUVs and pickup trucks. The drop-top C-Class will be available in at least one more version, with a new video showing it in motion.

This car is identical to the one that our spy photographers captured Monday. Both cars are wearing the exact same license plate. The thick camouflage, cladding and concealing any Cabriolet’s distinctive styling features is maintained. The Cabriolet will look very similar to the new 2022 C-Class Sedan, except that there are two less doors, a unique roof and a smaller back seat. You will still find plenty of tech and creature comforts.

The video captures the exhaust note. It sounds sporty and has a faint turbocharger whine. The details of the powertrain are still unknown, but the C-Class Cabriolet will likely use the same engines as the sedan, including gasoline and diesel. The Cabriolet could also have the entry-level engine option dropped, but we expect powerful AMG mills under the hood. This is much more exciting. The development of the next-gen C-Class Cabriolet in its early stages is still ongoing. The car’s thick cladding is a clear indication of its potential. It is not expected that the new C-Class will debut before next year. We’ll have to wait until 2023 to see it go on sale. It might not be the first two-door C-Class. We’ll be keeping an eye on both the Cabriolet and the C Class Coupe as they develop.
