On January 13, a cell phone video captured a shocking automotive crime in New York’s Time Square. The video shows an Mercedes AMG C63 sedan performing a long burnout in the busy streets. A police officer arrives on the scene and stops the car at an intersection. This is when things start to get frightening.
The Mercedes tries to get around the officer instead of obeying him. The C63 insists on pressing down on the policeman’s hood. The car pulls the officer along until he is on the hood. The Mercedes turns around and then throws the police officer out of the car. The sedan then speeds off.
The officer quickly gets back on his feet and the two of them begin to chase down the Mercedes by foot. The man filming them seems to be riding a bicycle, and he keeps up the pace throughout. The Mercedes manages to escape the scene despite heavy traffic and police presence. The getaway driver of the C63 allegedly struck several vehicles during the escape.
According to police had already begun looking for the Mercedes on that evening, after receiving reports about the sedan eating donuts near Times Square. Officer Ian Wallace suffered minor injuries to his right leg and arms after he was thrown off the C63’s roof.
The police have launched an investigation, but have not yet arrested anyone. This video did not provide enough detail to identify the driver, as it didn’t show the Mercedes’ license plate. However, there were many witnesses and investigators might have a good case if they had access to a dashcam.
