Renault’s 1.5-liter engine dCi has been made lighter, more powerful and more efficient.
The Mercedes-Benz Citan was originally introduced in 2012 as a rebadged version of Renault’s Kangoo commercial car. Now, a variety of cleaner and more efficient diesel engines are available. The OM 608 family consists of a single 1.5-liter engine in three power stages. All are compliant with Europe’s most recent emissions standards (Euro 6d TEMP).
The engine is sourced from Renault and is lighter than the predecessor due to weight-optimized steel pistons and a new aluminum cylinder head. The rail injection system pressure has increased from 1,600 bar up to 2,000 bar. Each injector can now inject fuel up six times per work cycle.
The Citan will now be available with 80 horsepower (59 Kilowatts), 95 HP (70 kW), and 116 HP (85 kW) starting immediately. The Tourer passenger model will receive the new engines first, and the Citan Panel Van will follow in summer 2019. The 1.5-liter engine has been mated to an exclusive six-speed manual gearbox. It features “impressively comfortable gearshifting, reduced fuel consumption, and a wider range of gears.”

A new package, called RED Design Package, is now available on some European markets for the Citan Panel Van and Citan Tourer. It gives the van a sportier look. The so-called RED Design Package includes red decorative strips under the front radiator grille, on the mirror housings and beneath the sliding doors to reach the rear wheel arch.
Mercedes explained that the appearance pack is unusual for such an automobile, but was a result the “thoroughly favorable reception” the Citan concept received at the International Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover.
