Current development is underway for the replacement of the C-Class and E-Class two-doors.
Mercedes-Benz has been working for over a year on the successor to today’s E-Class, C-Class coupe and convertible models. The German company is looking to streamline its lineup by replacing the two-door models with a single vehicle, the CLE-Class. We have an exclusive rendering of the new, sporty addition to this lineup that we expect to debut by the end of the year.
This digital drawing shows an open-top Mercedes that is nicely shaped and roughly between the C or E in terms its dimensions. It’s a classic convertible that has a soft-top roof. There is enough space for four people on separate seats. Although it looks a lot like the C-Class, the new model will be slightly longer than the C-Class with two doors.
We haven’t seen the cabriolet CLE yet, but unofficial information suggests that the new model will be available as a coupe. While the convertible pictured here may look similar to the Mercedes-AMG SL’s, it will be a different model within the brand’s lineup. The CLE’s hood is shorter because it will only use four-cylinder engines , even in AMG versions. This is the same as the C63. A version of the SL roadster comes with a V8 engine underneath.
Although it is difficult to determine the exact length of this new CLE, we do know that it will measure 190.15 inches (4.83m) in length. This is almost the same length as the E-Class Coupe. While the CLE family will initially only include vehicles with two doors at first, a successor of the CLS is currently in development. It could also be part of the new lineup of vehicles. However, nothing is known for certain.
The new CLE will debut in the second half of this year, and go on sale in 2023 both as a coupe and convertible. The new C-Class will have the same engine options as the C63, so the C63’s range-topping C63 model will be powered by an electrified 2.0-liter engine.
