Mercedes E-Class W214 Spotted on a Rainy Day in German Transportation

The spy video debut of the new E-Class Sedan.

Despite being sandwiched between C and S, the E-Class has never been affected by the middle-child syndrome. The E-Class has technically not been in the middle Mercedes’ lineup since the Sedan was released. The compact sedan is also available in an LWB version.

After seeing a lot of photos over the past few months, codenamed W214 the next-generation E-Class Sedan makes its spy video debut. This short clip shows a sedan disguised in camouflage being driven by an EQS and a Smart ForTwo. The production body is already visible, and the lights are on. This suggests that the premiere may take place before 2022. Mercedes will not be changing its exterior design, despite the elaborate disguise. The E-Class will get electronic pop-out doors handles to match the S-Class and the EQE/EQS, while the C-Class has handles that are always visible. The W206 is significantly longer and wider than the predecessor. This means that the next E-Class will be larger to make up the difference.

Although the taillights appear small, it’s because the bulk of the rear clusters are hidden behind the camouflage. The most significant change to the new C–Class cabin will be a vertical touchscreen for the W214. This will complement the standard digital instrument cluster. MBUX is already present on the E-Class, but the replacement will have more advanced infotainment. A wild rumor out of Autocar states that the next AMG E63 may also lose its V8 in order to match the C63. This is quite worrying. Affalterbach’s boys and girls plan to use an electrified M139 engine in both their high-performance sedans. This turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine is from the compact “45”, but it has an electric turbo and an electric motor.

The British magazine claims that some six-cylinder engines will be kept. Wouldn’t it be strange to have the AMG full-fat with a smaller powertrain? It wouldn’t feel right, even though it packs more power. We’ll just have to wait to see if a more powerful and electrified inline-6 is possible. The new E63 will likely arrive in 2023 or 2024. According to rumors, this will be the last Mercedes AMG E63 sold since the body design will be discontinued by 2030. The AMG will be sold alongside the Benz model and its tough All-Terrain sibling. The C-Class Estate is smaller and has a high-riding counterpart. However, the CLA Shooting Brake will eventually fail.
