This giant screen is very similar to the one we saw in next-gen S-Class prototypes.

Mercedes has already released images showing the avant-garde interior of the showcar, after revealing the attractive exterior design of the new HTML concept. The boldly designed four-door is believed to be the EQS, which signals an electric version the next-generation S-Class. It has a minimalist interior that features virtually no conventional controls.

The interior is spacious and features four seats. Each rear seat is separated by a floating console, which divides the cabin. The rear passengers enjoy plenty of legroom and decent headroom, despite having the cabin divided by a floating center console.

Sloping roofline. The presence of a dual-pane sunroof and the absence of B-pillars is a sign of suicide doors.

The futuristic concept eliminates traditional side mirrors. Instead, the A-pillars hold tiny cameras. Door armrests have built-in touchscreens that allow the driver and front passenger control a wide range of functions. The instrument cluster screen is located in the upper part of the dashboard’s heavily inclined area.

Mercedes clearly intended the electric concept to be able to drive the car as it is, but we expect the EQ will have an advanced autonomous driving system. It has a new display to replace the old-fashioned rearview mirror.

The interior’s highlight is the giant touchscreen that dominates the middle console. This makes it clear that this is the EQS, as spy shots of the next-generation S-Class have shown that Mercedes’ flagship will receive a large display. Although it is a concept, the idea is identical. To see the difference, here’s a side by side comparison.

We assume this is the EQS (name has not been officially confirmed). We’ve seen prototypes heavily camouflaged that were being tested with what appeared to be the production body. The shape of this test vehicle is very similar to Mercedes. You can see the visual comparo below if you don’t believe our claims.

The S Class (W223) with its conventionally-powered S-Class will be available in 2020. However, an electric version is expected to arrive later. According to rumors, the vehicle will be equipped with a Modular Electric Architecture (MEA), which has an electric motor at the front and another at the rear, giving it an AWD layout. Although it’s not possible to predict how much power they will produce together, an educated guess suggests that these motors will be more powerful than the 402 hp (305 kW) or 564 lb-ft (765Nm) available in EQC.

Mercedes will soon release the equivalent of an S-Class electric model, and the C-Class will be heading down the EV route within a few years as part of Daimler’s electric assault.
