Mercedes EQS SUV lets front passenger watch video while car is moving

It includes the brand’s MBUX Hyperscreen, which spans all of its dashes.

Automakers will need to understand what the future holds for autonomous vehicles. Although it’s still years away, the first steps towards expanding car entertainment are already being taken. Mercedes joins that effort with the new EKS SUV.

The company’s third all-electric vehicle will be the third to use the company’s dedicated EV architecture. It will come with the huge 56-inch Hyperscreen. The 12.3-inch OLED screen in front of the passenger will stream video even though the SUV is moving. To avoid distracting the driver, passengers will need to wear headphones. Mercedes will also use a second safeguard: the car will dim the passenger screen if the driver tries to see it. The driver monitoring system will track the driver’s eyes.

Mercedes EQS SUV lets front passenger watch video while car is moving

This is a first in Mercedes’ history, but it will not be the norm for the entire industry. Jeep allows passengers to view videos as they move in the Grand Wagoneer or Grand Cherokee. Mercedes may expand this capability to other models such as the EQS sedan which uses the same technology. However, Mercedes has not confirmed it.

Mercedes will pair its huge Hyperscreen with one among seven interior color combinations. These are made using fine leathers or wood to create inviting cabins. Mercedes showcased one interior trim feature, which combines laser-cut magnoliawood with stainless steel inlays. The EQS SUV will feature a Dolby atmos sound system and the company’s air purification system. This system receives a new scent, No.6 MOOD Mimosa.

Mercedes claims that the EQS SUV will have optional third-row seating, which is better than the GLE’s third-row seats. Mercedes’ EV architecture allows them to create an SUV that is spacious and comfortable for passengers and cargo. According to the company, the EQS SUV can hold up to four golf bags.

Mercedes will reveal the exterior design and powertrain specs on April 19. The SUV will likely share the same powertrains as the EQS sedan. This should also include an AMG version with high-powered engines.
