Production will also be possible for the roof-mounted solar panel of the EQXX.
The brand’s future electric cars will be influenced by the Mercedes-Benz Vision. It will be used in production vehicles starting in 2024.
The EQXX’s nose with no grille will be featured on future EVs. Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer, stated that similar designs will be seen in the years ahead.
The EQXX uses a lot of renewable materials in its cabin. This includes fake leather made from mushrooms and pulverized cactus fibres. Wagener suggests that these textiles will be available in the future. “Leather remains the predominant material. He said that although I don’t think we will replace leather entirely, we will offer customers options for those who don’t want it.”
Current Mercedes EVs have a black panel on the front with metallic uprights. Although it resembles a grille in appearance, the element is not open to allow air to pass through. This is gone in the EQXX, which has a series of three-pointed stars that are placed over a section of the front bumper with a body-color. The fascia has the only other inlet.
In 2024, the electric drive system of the EQXXX will be used in a production car. It consists of an electric motor, transmission, power electronics, and a dedicated unit. Mercedes claims that the components are made from a new generation silicon carbides.
This powertrain will also include a dual motor variant that will reduce the range but provide more power. The EQXXX’s single electric motor produces 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts).
Production will also be possible for the EQXX’s 900-volt architecture. Markus Schafer, Chief Technology Officer, claims that this system can recover 186.4 miles (300 km) of range in just 15 minutes.
According to Schafer, the battery chemistry from this concept will be in production for the 2024 and 2025 model years. He said that it offers more range for the same amount of money and higher efficiency during the same presentation.
Production is also underway for the EQXX’s roof-mounted solar panel. The concept uses it and a separate lithium-iron-phosphate battery to store energy for powering things like the blower for the HVAC system, lights, and infotainment system. We believe that new roofs are necessary. Schafer stated that glass roofs and solar roofing will be an important feature we offer in the future.
