Mercedes G-Class 4×4 Quadrupled Spied and Camo Can’t Hide the Big SUV

You can expect a debut in the next year.

Even in its simplest configuration, the Mercedes G-Class can be a formidable machine. The German automaker is capable of turning it into a formidable machine in many ways. New spy shots show one such way – the G-Class 4×4 Squared.

Spy shots are very clear, with camouflage covering the large wheel arches, part of the roof, the roof rack with additional lights and the full-size spare tire cover. All other details are visible, revealing the G-Class’ boxy design. Camouflage couldn’t hide the SUVs high ride height and brutish stance.

The suspension’s taller height greatly enhances its off-road capabilities. It was previously 17.7 inches (450 mm) high and 39.3 inches (1,500 mm) deep. Mercedes used AMG G636x6 as the basis for the original 4×4 squared. This included upgrading the G-Class to include portal axles and permanent four-wheel drives, locking differentials, and other features.

The twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 will deliver power. However, it is not known what its output will be. It could be closer to the G550’s 416 horsepower (310-kilowatts) output. Mercedes might place it closer to its G63 with 577 hp (577 kW). The previous 4×4 Squared produced 416 horsepower. The 4×4 Squared redesign won’t be able to compete with the rest of G-Class’s lineup.

With over 41,000 copies sold, the new G-Class is doing well. Mercedes is apparently increasing delivery times for the model due to its popularity. Some models are reportedly being pushed as late as the fourth-quarter of 2024. It is not expected that the G-Class 4×4 Squared will debut until later in the year. The G-Class 4×4 Squared will be available for purchase in the 2023 model year. However, US customers may have to wait until sales begin here. Mercedes models and other German brands are more popular in Europe than they are here.
