Why not give more power and opulence a luxurious SUV?
Although the latest Mercedes-Benz G-Class is not yet in stores in most parts of the world, the engineering team has its sights set on the future. There will be many versions of the platform, including one with more performance and possibly a Maybach model that is more luxury-oriented.
G-Class product chief Dr. Gunnar Guthhenke suggested to Auto Express that a more powerful S version of G63 might be in the works. Dr. Guthenke stated that previously, the S version of the G63 had not been offered with the S-model’s steering and dynamics. “I’m so excited about future modifications.”
The Mercedes’ 4.0-liter biturbo engine V8 produces 577 horsepower (430kilowatts), and 627 poundfeet (685 newton-meters). The SUV can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.4 seconds, which is a quarter of a second faster than the previous-generation model. The S is expected to increase the output.
Mercedes has also applied for trademark protection for the G73. The model will reportedly include a plug-in hybrid to its 4.0-liter biturbo engine V8 to increase the output to 800 hp (597kW) and 738lb-ft (1,001 Nm) respectively.
Dr. Guthenke also suggested a new Maybach G-Class. “We have had Maybach together with Landaulet. He said Auto Express that he wanted to continue this tradition.
The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet semi-convertible was introduced at the end the previous generation G-Class. They were 99 in number and cost 630,000 pounds in the U.K. (roughly $750,000 at current exchange rates). The biturbo 6.0-liter V8 produced 621 horsepower (463 kW) 737 lbft (1,000 Nm).
Mercedes offers many customization options to the G-Class SUV, even before the new variants are available. The Stainless Steel Package adds a lot of metallic trim to the model, while the Night Package darkens it. You can also add panels to the front and back fascias with the AMG Line package.
