Mercedes G63 Battle Range Rover Sport SVR in Brutal Tug of War

The tug-of-war champion will be the one who holds on to his grip.

Here’s the deal, friends. These tug of war battles among cars are, for the lack of a better word, bloody stupid and serve little purpose other than to show who has more traction. Massive smoky burnouts, on the other hand, are equally stupid and do not serve any purpose except to show who has less traction. It’s all fun and we will happily embrace the low-brow pleasures of roping two cars together and watching them fight to the death. This CarWow video shows you how to do it, but without dying.

The purpose of a vehicle tug-of war is not about power, but grip. This is why even a small tree with no engine will beat your neighbor’s pickup truck. The vehicles have engines. However, the Mercedes-AMG G63 has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter engine making 585 horsepower and the Range Rover Sport VRpacks a supercharged 5.0-liter motor with 575 hp.

Both can be used off-road, but the Merc has a significant advantage in torque. It also comes with a manual transmission that has an additional gear and is 440lbs heavier. It seems that the G63 has an advantage on paper. But again, this is not about power or gears. It’s all about grip.Mercedes loses the first battle, despite being the heavyweight. The front differential was not locked in. So the off-roaders take on Mercedes again and move slowly. Although the SVR held a slight edge, it was declared a dead heat. Although tires are not mentioned in the video, it appears that the Range Rover has better grip on the grass where the contest is being held.

There are several more matches, where the Mercedes try different techniques to gain an edge. The SVR also picked up another passenger to add ballast. It made all the difference in the different outcomes. The video will tell the story about which vehicle wins the overall battle, but it all boils down to grip, as is the case with vehicle tug of war.
