Mercedes Has Built 500,000 S-Class W222 Sedans In Germany It will be replaced by a successor soon. Since 2013, the current generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is in production. While the automaker is already hard at work developing a successor to its flagship sedan the W222 is still in production and is celebrating an important milestone. Mercedes just announced the assembly of the 500,000th S-Class current-gen at its Sindelfingen plant. “In every one of the 500,000 S Class models, there is a substantial amount of heart and soul from all of Sindelfingen. This production success is a result of the many years of expertise and specialist knowledge of our employees. We are the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen factory, and we are proud to be the centre of expertise for our premium or luxury class,” stated Michael Bauer, Head Production. Despite the fact that China is the largest market for the S-Class, the German factory still produces the S-Class. Every third model is sold in China. Sindelfingen uses multiple digital technologies in its manufacturing process to create a “paperless factory”. Employees can see the specifications of each vehicle on a screen. Mobile devices also support employees in their individual work steps. It’s a miracle! It looks like the future for this production site is bright too. Mercedes claims that models from the EQ family of cars will be assembled here. The factory in Sindelfingen employs more than 25,000 people and produces the E-Class in sedan, coupe, and wagon versions. CLS, S-Class (Sedan Coupe and Cabriolet), Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-AMG GT GT. Every day, approximately 250 cars leave the factory’s assembly lines.
