If not for the pandemic, this process would have taken place sooner.
MercedesBenz is recalling thousands high-riding vehicles in America due to faulty electrical system. You can find the details and the voluntary recall on the NHTSA website.
The recall specifically blames the defective optional illuminated Mercedes-Benz star logo on the front grille. This led to the automaker recalling 12,799 vehicles. GLE-Class and GLS-Class Units manufactured between December 8, 2018 and February 2, 2020.
According to the document, the star logo’s electric ground connection might not have been installed correctly. This could potentially affect the functionality of other components, such as power steering control unit and wiper motor. Dealers will need to move the ground point and reconnect the connection to correct this problem.
Mercedes-Benz was not notified of any accidents involving owners of affected units. In the document, it was also stated that Mercedes-Benz received the report as early as last year. They immediately began investigating. The process was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, which caused personnel furloughs.
The most affected Mercedes GLE-Class models are the GLE350, GLE450 and GLE580. The recall includes 9,642 GLE-Class units, including GLE350, GLE450 and GLE580 for the 2020 model year. The recall also includes 3,157 GLS-Class units.
Mercedes dealers will be notified at this stage, and owners will follow. The fix should be in place by December 8, 2020. We recommend that you immediately contact your dealer if you suspect your Merc SUV may be part of the defective batch. MBUSA customer service can also be reached at 1-800-367-6372.
